PHILLIP FILO

Phillip’s professional career started in 1984 with his first television commercial for Toyworld at the age of seven. The rest of his childhood and teenage years were spent fronting many local and international television advertising campaigns for a catalogue of brands including Colgate, Arnott’s, Mattel and Coca-Cola.

At the age of seventeen, Phillip landed his first full time performing job as Singer/Dancer at Australia's Wonderland. For the next ten years, Phillip continued work on a variety of projects including playing 'Henry' in the Reef Hotel Casino's "Firefly"; Singer/Dancer in the Norwegian Star's "Starcast"; ‘Doody’ in two separate national tours of "Grease"; and touring Australia with Sir Tim Rice, INXS, David Essex and Anthony Warlow as a featured singer as well as choreographer in "Tim Rice's Musical Spectacular".

In 2004, Phillip decided to return to his theme park roots and successfully auditioned for the role of 'Wolfie' in Universal Studios Japan's "Monsters Live". This was a life changing experience. Being a part of this intensely creative world really cultivated his desire to start working behind the scenes. Over the next year Phillip would be asked to assist on various new projects and by 2005 he was given the opportunity to step completely behind the scenes and became the full-time Musical Director on USJ's creative team. In the years that followed, Phillip was promoted to Associate Director where he wrote and produced an array of shows and then was promoted again to Show Director and given the responsibility of leading many successful large scale projects. Some USJ highlights include, 2007 and 2008 "Universal Studios Japan Halloween Parade" - Director/Choreographer; "Santa's Toy Party" 2008 - Director/Choreographer; "Hello Kitty's Hollywood Adventure" - Musical Director/Choreographer; "Sesame St Dancing Dreams" - Musical Director/Choreographer; “Magical Starlight Parade” - Head Choreographer and "Wicked" - Resident Musical Director.

In 2010 after a fantastic six year run, Phillip decided to return to his beloved native Sydney. Since returning to Australia, he has continued to work as both a Musical Director and Choreographer with a client list that now includes McDonald’s Australia, Commonwealth Bank, The XXXX Angels, Sydney Carols In The Domain, The Think Brick Awards, Luminous Events Asia and The Australian Girls Choir. In this time, Phillip has also been delighted to be an invited member of Grayboy Entertainment's creative team to musically direct and produce a long list of new shows for P&O Australia which include "Please Don't Stop The Music", "DIS connected", "The Very Last Night Show", "Twice Upon A Time", "SEVEN" and "Rock Anthems of the Ages". Most recently, Phillip was invited back to create the brand show "X-Centric" which opened on the Pacific Dawn in August 2018. Today, Phillip has eight full production shows and ten opening acts running across all five ships of P&O's Australian fleet.

In 2010, Phillip jumped at the opportunity to join the faculty of Ed5 International as the course Musical Director. He believes that versatility is essential for success in the entertainment industry and is honoured to be a contributing part of Ed5 International’s vision to cultivate the all round professional.
